St Dennis joy over new Flugel
St Dennis Band is pleased to announce the signing of Ellie Joy on Flugel Horn.
Ellie is a young rising star who at the age of 14 is a member of both the Cornwall Youth Brass Band and the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain where she was tutored by ex St Dennis Star Zoe Hancock (now Flugelhorn with the Black Dyke Band). She has for the last 3 years received lessons and mentored by Chris Spreadbury and passed her Grade 8 ABRSM on her flugel at 13 just 4 marks off a distinction.
Ellie is also a very familiar face on the Solo Quartet circuit in Cornwall and Devon winning many prizes and has been the recipient of the Best Horn / Flugel prize at the St Dennis contest for the past 3 years.
At only 14 years old she is very much looking forward to the challenge ahead at St Dennis and is very proud to be following in the footsteps of Zoe. Outside of band she is currently a student at Okehampton College where she plays trumpet in the college Big Band and the piano. She spends the rest of her spare time travelling to band!
Musical Director Darren Hawken commented…
“I’m delighted that Ellie has decided to join the band. Her potential is evident to see and this further indicates the St Dennis commitment to invest in young, hungry and talented individuals. I so very much look forward to blending her very traditional flugelhorn tone in with an already established full mature band sound. I sincerely hope Elle has a long and successful stay with the band culminating in many fine performances and hopefully rewarding contest results. A big welcome from us all.”
