St Dennis former Principal Euphonium Star and long term supporter passed away peacefully at Amberley House, Truro on 25th February, aged 105.

Brass Bands and particularly St Dennis, always held a special place in Harley Brewer’s heart with many memories of his family’s’ involvement dating back to father, Frank Snr on bass trombone tutoring his sons from the mid 1920’s.

Harley, as he was always known to the Band, settled on the euphonium as the instrument of choice and was an exceptionally talented soloist during the forties and fifties, finally signing up to The Central Band of the RAF and enjoying a professional career in music with this iconic ensemble.

In recent years, Harley enjoyed reviewing his banding archive and listening to recordings. He liked nothing better than recalling his experiences of life growing up and working in the china clay industry, remembering his euphonium playing at St Dennis while two brothers, Terry and Melville, joined their father to complete the trombone section of the Band. There is continuity even to today with grandson, Dylan Brewer, occupying the Solo Trombone chair with distinction at St Dennis. We send our deepest condolences to Dylan together with all Brewer family members at this sad time.

Donations, in lieu of flowers, in mark of memory and celebration for the life of Francis ‘Harley’ Brewer are requested by the family for The St Dennis Band via the Funeral Director, Ms Laura Henwood of Andrew Henwood Funerals, Newquay.
